What is investors underwriting? Sometimes investment terms can be difficult for everyday people to understand. What is certain is that investors underwriting is an important process that corporations rely on. It is a process where corporations hire investors to sell their stock.

People who are involved in investors underwriting are considered middlemen. They sell the stock of a corporation to the public. Therefore, they are the intermediaries between the corporation and the public.

Investors underwriting involves a risk. Indeed, traditionally the word 'underwriting' literally meant that the investor would write his name under the stock as an assurance that he would be willing to take a specific financial risk. In essence, investors underwriting involves accepting the responsibility of handling a stock and agreeing to take the risk of the responsibility. Which means that if there is a financial loss, those involved in the investors underwriting process understand what is at stake.

In many cases, those who are involved in investors underwriting buy the stock from the corporation. They then sell the stock at a higher price to the public in order to make a profit. Think of it as a retail store buying from a wholesaler and then selling the items to the public at a higher price. If the retail store does not sell their products to the public at a higher price, than what they paid for them at wholesale, they cannot make a profit.

Investors underwriting is not without rules. Anyone involved in investors underwriting must do so under the rules of the Security and Exchange Commission or SEC. The SEC is a United States Government Agency. The SEC makes sure that the investment process is operating correctly. The SEC is just one of the many United States Government Agencies that are an important part of American society.
